2011 Call Archive

April 11, 2011 – At 02:08am Sparta PSAP received calls reporting a car into the woods on State Hwy 206 in front of the Lakeland EMS Headquarters with injuries.  Sparta alerted 43 Rescue and 43 Fire.  The Andover duty crew (43-234) responded from Station 2 in Andover Twp. just behind Rescue 231 which arrived within minutes out of Station1.  A Chrysler Sebring had gone off the road and struck a fence and some trees. Three female occupants were triaged; 1 female rear passenger had a foot injury, the second female rear passenger and driver refused medical treatment. BLS 234 transported the female victim to Newton Memorial Hospital ED for further treatment of her injuries.  The Byram duty crew (2nd due BLS into the MVC) in 43-232 was re-directed to a simultaneous medical call at the northern end of town.  This was the start of a busy day for Lakeland with 8 total assignments, 6 of them being simultaneous calls to one another.

January 30, 2011 – 43 Rescue and 32 Fire were dispatched at 3:50pm ny Andover Township PSAP for a reported van rolled over into a pole with occupants still inside on County Highway 517 and Payne Road.  First arriving units reported a pole, wires and transformer down on the van with two occupants still inside. The occupants were told to stay inside the vehicle due to the possibility the wires and transformer were still ‘live’.  Lakeland EMS already had one ambulance (232) out on a medical call in Byram; this MVC was handled by 43-234 and Rescue 231 while ATFD responded Rescue 32-75 to the scene and Engine 32-61 to a traffic post.  LES Chief Allenspach had EMS Division and maintained verbal contact with the occupants while waiting for JCP&L to arrive. Warm blankets were tossed into the vehicle for the occupants to wrap up in.  A JCP&L technician arrived on scene 50 minutes into the call and de-energized the lines. EMS and fire crews made entry to extract the driver and her passenger.  Both were placed into the ambulance for evaluation and subsequent transport to Newton Memorial Hospital.

While crews were still on scene of the MVC, 43-232 was clearing from Hackettstown Regional Medical Center and assigned to a working residential structure fire in Byram Township with 43 Fire.  Subsequently, 43-230 responded to the fire as well and Rescue 231 was also assigned upon clearing the MVC.  One patient who was rescued from the home by a passing motorist was evaluated at the fire scene for smoke inhalation and subsequently refused medical treatment.

January 19, 2011 – Andover Township PSAP received a call reporting a car fire on Dorset Lane in the Dorset Farms development.  At 19:49, Andover Twp. FD (32 Fire) and Lakeland EMS (43 Rescue) were alerted.  Upon arrival, ATPD Sgt. Danielson reported the fire contained to the engine compartment and no threat to any exposure. While units were responding the officer reported the “fire was no longer contained”.  ATFD Engines 32-61 & 32-62 along with Rescue 32-75 responded and BLS units 43-230 & 43-235 and Rescue 43-231 rolled from Lakeland. Upon arrival of the first engine, handlines were deployed and the fire was quickly knocked down. No injuries were reported on scene.

January 1, 2011 – 43 Rescue and 22 Fire were dispatched shortly after 23:00 for a MVC in Andover Borough near Grist Mill Lane and Route 206.  First arriving EMS units advised of minor injuries and possible refusals.  Ambulance 234 was first due along with Rescue 231 and Engine 2262.  The second ambulance was requested to proceed in to the scene with due caution to assist with a large number of refusals in the two car MVC.  All units cleared the scene around midnight.
